's Gravesande

 

[sxraːfə'sandə], Willem Jacob, niederländischer Physiker, * Herzogenbusch 27. 9. 1688, ✝ Leiden 28. 2. 1742; war seit 1717 Professor in Leiden und einer der bedeutendsten Experimentalphysiker seiner Zeit, der sich besonders für die Physik I. Newtons einsetzte.

 

Werke: Physices elementa mathematica, experimentis confirmata, 2 Bände (1720/21); Philosophiae Newtonianae institutiones, in usus academicos (1723).
